Lots of Rob Reiner haters in the comments because it's the right thing to do and by "right" I mean it's what "the poorly educated" were told what to do by the right-wing political billion dollar influence machine that preys on these dumb dumbs! If they had a single thought of their own America would be in a much better place!

If there had been more than 3 or 4 stations when MASH aired it would have not had the run or longevity it did. Alan Alda's ego project sucked. Nobody needed to be reminded the horrors of war. America had just gotten done watching Vietnam on tv daily. Korea was fresh. Only narcissistic leftists believe this as they believe they exist to tell us all what to think & how to feel and apparently all the protests and violence weren't enough to them. TV is supposes to be an escape, but most episodes reminded Americans about loss, patients died on MASH all the time. They watched the doctors hearts break when they lost a patient. Believe Trapper had an episode where he almost killed an enemy for causing the death of one. Hawkeye lost his good friend in an episode on the table. Sure, a top WTF moment, but that doesn't making it genius, or brilliant.

I'd have left too. This never should have been called MASH. It should have been called the Alan Alda show. It was his ego project to push his politics and crap. The first 3 seasons are pretty good. I hate about the show the same thing I did the movie, the approach to marriage. But I can't blame Wayne or anyone for leaving. In the movie Trapper is more the central character. Hawkeye in the movie and books is like the moral compass to a degree, and the representation of the audience. He's part of everything but not running it. Trapper takes over the movie and becomes head surgeon. In the show nobody is good at anything but Hawkeye. He's the best surgeon, has the only good ideas, shuts everyone down, sits on his pedestal looking down at everyone. Heck, BJ got to do more than Trapper and I think that's because Alda took more control behind the cameras directing episodes & stuff. But still made a few terrible episodes where he's literally the only character. Potter is what makes anything post 3 tolerable, him and actually episodes with Sidney are great.

I've heard that during All in the Family Reiner and Carrol O'Connor were taping a scene. Àrchie says something stupid and Mike droops his head in exasperation. O'Connor improvised "what's wrong? Is my fly down?" Reiner somehow kept it together.

*Reiner made some very good movies. His acting is another story. I laughed in bemusement when he was a 'biker' dating Laurie in The Partridge Family. Why Shirley saw him as a threat is anyone's guess. He was as menacing as a poodle*

A little off the mark. The "Space 1999" pilot was filmed in 1973. By that time "Star Trek" was long established as a hit in syndication. The conventions were going strong and there was even an animated series. Also, the involvement and contribution of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson is not even mentioned.

Yeah Rob you were in a LOT of classic shows! Because your father is Carl Reiner and he made calls to get you acting jobs!! You’re just another silver spoon Hollywood rich kid born on third base who acts like he hit a triple! He presents himself as a nice, witty guy, while the stories of what an asshole he is to people could fill a book! Liam Neeson famously was treated like shit by Reiner during auditions for Princess Bride. Need you hear any more of how entitled he felt than “get someone else, this is the way I work”! Who the hell did he think he was Marlon effin Brando? What a colossal a-hole!!!!!

My in-laws owned a house in Newport Beach across the street from John. He'd rent their house in the winter to hide his mistress. They were talking one day, and my MIL asked John about his stinker movie, it was towards the end of his career. He said, "you'd do it too for a million dollars" When a million meant a million. Classic...
